From Luneta to the Big Dome

Founded in 2016 by Filipino music advocate Jhon Mark “Yuan” Quiblat, the awards developed during a period when dedicated spaces for P-pop recognition were still taking shape. The platform now reaches its 11th edition, entering a new decade of recognizing and promoting homegrown talent.

Its beginnings at the Rizal Park Open-Air Auditorium in Manila gave the platform a public-facing identity: a place where emerging performers could be recognized alongside more established names. By 2018, the PPOP Awards for Young Artists had widened its categories across performers, groups, songwriters, bands and youth-oriented media. Contemporary coverage described an Awards Council drawing from music, performing arts, academe, film, creative production, youth organizations and advocacy.

Early history and Awards Council background — When In Manila

That early commitment matters because a music ecosystem develops through continuity. Artists need recordings and stages, but they also need the people who keep organizing, documenting, promoting and opening doors before the mainstream audience arrives.

Quiblat’s role has been to sustain that advocacy across successive editions. Current organizer coverage identifies him as the platform’s founding chairman, carrying its push for Filipino audiences to support music made by fellow Filipinos.

An awards platform that grew with its artists

Recent editions show the changing scale of that ambition. At the eighth awards in 2023, SB19 collected eight recognitions, with Gento winning Song of the Year and Video of the Year and Pagtatag! receiving Album of the Year.

The ninth edition moved to the New Frontier Theater in 2024. BINI led the winners, taking Artist of the Year, Song of the Year for Pantropiko, Album of the Year for Talaarawan and several other honors. SB19 received the PPOP Icon recognition. The 10th-anniversary edition followed at the Metropolitan Theater in 2025, where SB19 took major honors including Artist of the Year, Song of the Year for DUNGKA!, Album of the Year for Simula at Wakas and Music Video of the Year for DAM.

10th-anniversary program — LionhearTV

2025 winners — Balitang Marino

The progression from an open-air auditorium to established theaters and now the Smart Araneta Coliseum reflects a platform expanding alongside the music community it serves. Each edition adds to a record of Filipino creativity—and creates another opportunity for newer acts to be seen.

Patronize. Promote. Observe. Preserve.

The supplied organizer presentation frames PPOP through four action words: Patronize, Promote, Observe and Preserve. Together, they call for support for Filipino work, wider promotion of Philippine music and culture, recognition of homegrown excellence and care for the identity that makes that creativity distinct.

The mission also encourages artists and management teams to help build the movement, recognize homegrown contributions, inspire young people to value God, country and fellow Filipinos, and strengthen camaraderie and collaboration. In a scene shaped by performers, writers, producers, choreographers, labels, filmmakers, promoters and fandoms, that shared work reaches far beyond an awards ceremony.

One nation of talent, one stage

The announced main-show lineup includes XONARA, X8, Hazel Faith, Calista, BILIB, NEO, 6ENSE, Cloud 7, One South, NOVA, SYNC. Regional participation also brings KITTRIX from Luzon, Belamour and LEEYAN from the Visayas, and VRAJA from Mindanao into the broader program.

That national reach gives the celebration a purpose beyond Metro Manila. It makes room for performers building their careers across different communities, while connecting them with audiences, fellow artists and potential industry partners.

The awards share the stage with NobleLife International’s 20th-anniversary celebration. Its supplied presentation highlights health education, consultation and community-oriented wellness activities. The event’s Music and Wellness theme places that anniversary alongside Filipino musical expression and the relationships built through live experiences.

DLM Eventive Singapore adds a cross-border entertainment perspective. Its supplied portfolio card features Filipino concert productions, while the Philippine Embassy in Singapore has documented its role as the producer of The Juans’ 2025 Singapore concert. That experience helps connect the event’s local advocacy with audiences and opportunities beyond the Philippines.

A personal acknowledgment

Why I continue to support the PPOP Music Awards

By Nestor “Sir Next” Layderos

My support for this advocacy goes back to 2018, during my years in broadcast media, and continues today through Sir Next and NextEVENTS. Yuan Quiblat has been a friend through the years, and I have seen his commitment to creating a platform for Philippine pop music. Congratulations, Yuan, on reaching the 11th edition and bringing that vision to the Big Dome.

I also extend my sincere thanks to NobleLife International for the invitation and VIP ticket, provided through Ms. Nancy Deocareza, and to Ms. Lila Baylon Macapinlac, CEO of NobleLife International and DLM Eventive Singapore, for supporting this P-pop advocacy. I am grateful that the recommendation I made during my time as DLM’s General Manager found support and has become part of a meaningful collaboration for Filipino talent.

Para sa akin, supporting P-pop means supporting the people who continue to work for a place on the stage—the artists, creative teams, organizers and communities behind every performance. May we keep opening doors for them, not only when an act is already successful, but while the work is still growing.

My hope is that the 12th PPOP Music Awards and the years ahead will attract more sponsors and partners willing to invest in this vision. Filipino talent can thrive when encouragement is matched by resources, professional opportunities and long-term commitment. To Yuan, the artists, the partners and everyone keeping this advocacy alive: congratulations, and may this next chapter reach even further.
